With a crowd of over 250 members and guests, Impact 100 awarded 2 grants of $109,000 each to Dress for Success (Family Committee) and Starfire U (Education Committee). The evening began in the Cincinnati Museum Center rotunda where members reconnected and introduced friends and guests to Impact 100. Cocktails and a buffet dinner were served prior to moving to Reakirt Auditorium for remarks by our founder, Wendy Steele and presentations by the five finalists.
Dress for Success (DFS) will use the $109,000 grant to purchase and furnish a van to be used as the Mobile Career Transformation Center (MCTC). The MCTC will offer all the same services as the downtown location. In addition to providing many support services critical to women retaining employment; the van will be used to pick up donations that may be “lost” because donors are unable to get to the downtown location. Stacey Schneider, a DFS client and presenter at the AAC, stated the need for the grant “the services Dress for Success provides made such a difference in my life. The MCTC will allow women in Northern Kentucky, Lower Price Hill, Amelia, Batavia, and the counties of Clermont, Butler and Warren to have the same opportunity.”
Starfire U will use the grant over a two year period to provide instructors and staffing resources for the next two incoming Starfire U classes. Each incoming class will consist of 25 students with a 5 to 1 student to teacher ratio. The customized social education center at Starfire U is designed to create the most effective learning environment for those with disabilities that is both relevant and empowering. During his presentation at the AAC, Tim Vogt, Starfire Executive Director explained,” Teachers at Starfire are able to focus on the gifts that each student has and plug them in to the appropriate outlet in the community.”

In addition to hearing presentations from the remaining three finalists: YWCA (Culture), Winning in Neighborhoods (Environment, Recreation and Preservation) and Stepping Stones (Health and Wellness); Wendy Steele spoke about women in philanthropy. One highlight, she encouraged members to renew and bring a friend to Impact 100. The goal of awarding 3 grants or possibly even 5 grants could be achieved in 2011!
